Musée des Arts et Métiers
The Museum of Arts and Crafts (Musée des Arts et Métiers) was founded in 1802 and is the oldest history of Science museum in Europe. Its collections are comprised of more than 80 000 objects, among which 4000 are today on display in the permanent collection. The museum also organizes an average of three temporary exhibitions per year and offers to its visitors a wide array of interpretation media, ranging form guided tours, demonstrations, audio guides, on-site 2D multimedia presentations and provides activities for disabled visitors and visitors with special abilities as well as tours in the French sign language. The museum has a rich collection of inventions, machines and scientific instruments and sheds light on the life of famous inventors, such as the Lumiere brothers, Alessandro Volta, Jacques de Vaucanson and Leon Foucault and boasts exhibits such as the Foucault‟s pendulum, the Automaton‟s theatre and the aeroplane number 3 of Clement Ader. It is important to notice that ever since it‟s foundation in 1802, the museum apart from collecting, preserving and documenting objects related with science and the history of science has an educational and instructive vocation and is co-supervised by the Ministry of Education. The Museum of Arts and Crafts is an end-user in the ARtSENSE consortium. As such the museum is bound to participate in the interaction design, the definition of didactic narratives and the elaboration of museum visitors profiles for the adaptation of the application. The Museum of Arts and Crafts will be working closely on those aspects with the laboratory of computer science of CNAM-A (CEDRIC), with which collaboration has already been established for the French national research project PLUG, an edutainment game that is based on the RFID technology and is played with RFID-enabled phones and I-Phones.
