Partner Description

In its 22 year history FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) has gone from being a commissioning and delivery agency for the UK’s first video and new media festival (Video Positive 1989) to being the UK’s leading media arts organization. Working out of its bespoke £10million exhibition and cinema space in Liverpool UK, FACT works across video, film and new media arts and produces groundbreaking exhibitions, education and research projects. The organisation aims to pioneer new forms of artistic and social interaction between individuals and communities and maintains a programme of commissioning original work that works in the art/creative technology field.

FACT proposes to integrate the ARtSENSE project into it programme by commission a work with this emerging technology as part of FACT’s Interactive Architecture show in 2013. FACT is supported by the UK Arts Council and by Liverpool City Council.

Project Description

FACT will be one of the end-user project partners in ARtSENSE responsible for testing the capabilities of the system within the public domain. The FACT Centre offers challenging environments for the system and a unique opportunity to incorporate other key aspects of the museum experience and management into the research. These include; working with third parties (artists), questions around managing the data (sustainability) and questions of what constitutes an artifact (discreet, environmental or changeable).

FACT’s commitment to sustaining research driven projects between technical partners and artists is reflected in its engagement with its partner organization Liverpool John Moores University and the rest of the technical partners in the ARtSENSE consortium.
